Filtration for 46 gal | |
dsa Small Fry Posts: 11 Kudos: 10 Votes: 0 Registered: 25-Apr-2004 | I got a 46 gal (bow front) for Christmas (after my 38 gal started leaking). Anyway, I'm running the Penguin 200 from my old 38 gal, but I want to upgrade. I don't know if I should get a canister (I was leaning toward a Fluval 304) or a power filter (Emperor 400). Obviously I want to have clean water, but it would be nice if some of the debris that gets stirred up could be taken care of too. I vacuum regularly, but I can't get everything, obviously. I'm fairly sure that the inhabitants of the 46 gal will be the same as the 38 gal (two mollies, fives platies, two WCMM, and two otos). I'll probably get a few more otos, but I think that'll be all for a while. It will be planted eventually, but at the moment it just has the old decorations and a coarse sand substrate. So, yes. Any filtration suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to stay at $90 and below. Thanks in advance. Last edited by dsa at 23-Dec-2005 01:55 |

I know others will disagree but as a Eheim user it does the job perfect and is extremly efficient also very quiet. If you're looking for raw power that's also pretty efficient, than the emperor 400 is your ticket Just be aware that the emperor will probably require a bit more maintenance to keep the spraybars clean so your bio-wheels function properly, but it's worth it to snake a pipe cleaner in there every few weeks |

So far it's been really easy....and against previous thought and reading online it's been really really quiet! Besides, it looks cool...coworkers refer to it as R2D2 ^_^ |

Eheim is acknowledged as the best but you can get near comparable quality from many manufacturers. I run an Eheim with an AquaClear HOB as I like to have duplicative or back-up equipment on my tank. __________ "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." researched from Steven Wright |
