Fixing Up When They Break | |
HOKESE Mega Fish Posts: 1105 Kudos: 478 Votes: 271 Registered: 22-Feb-2003 | hey guysa while back i had a aqua via 650 cannister filter,and it sprung a leak after like 5 years of great performance,so i stripped it down and cleaned it out,and its be sitting in my spare tank sicnce,well i was having a look at it and i think ive found the leak,well where it is ,if im corect i can seal it up with some non toxic silcone,if i do this and thats where the leak is,will the filter still fuction as it did b4,i replaced the impeller,not long b4 it sprung a leak,and so far everthing else was working fine.what do you guys think,normally i would jsut throo it to the dump,but its been great,so i think its worth having a play around with.... |

Other than a very low tank think of what other damage it can do to floor coverings. It could be a very costly repair. I am not talking about replacing a seal. If it was a crack in the housing, you would have to "stop drill" the crack and then try super gluing it shut. In many cases Super glue won't work on some types of plastic. Silicone won't seal a crack on plastic permanently unless you clean the plastic really really well. And, in any case, you will have to replace all the gaskets as well as the O Rings as they have all dried out by now. Honestly, its easier and safer to simply replace the filter. HOKESE Mega Fish Posts: 1105 Kudos: 478 Votes: 271 Registered: 22-Feb-2003 | thanx anyway guys,it been chucked in the box trailer,for the dump next weekend,after reading the posts,and speaking to my guy at my lfs,i just kept the taps and the impeller,hoses,and the baskets,and chucked the rest,at the moment i didnt need it anyway,as i said above,i was just having a play around with it,and i thought maybe i could seal it up,but after it sprang a leak(i did catch it early,but there still was water all over the floor,witch i had to soak up),i thought what if it does it again,then keith said it too,so yeah,in the box trailer it went.,i will be sad to finally see it go,it was a dam good filter,and i look at it like this,all the use i got from it,its paid for itself 10 times over... |
