could be a corroded or broken O-ring or some worn out threading... but is would try the silicone and see if it works.. you could always acetone and razor blade it off if it causes a problem... also check its warranty.. good luck

Being a canister even if you repair it it can still leak at another time and then a big disaster if it starts pumping out water. Other than a very low tank think of what other damage it can do to floor coverings. It could be a very costly repair.

I am not talking about replacing a seal.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Hi,
You never did say what caused the leak, just that you
thought you found the cause. If it was a crack in the
housing, you would have to "stop drill" the crack and
then try super gluing it shut. In many cases Super glue
won't work on some types of plastic. Silicone won't
seal a crack on plastic permanently unless you clean the
plastic really really well.

And, in any case, you will have to replace all the gaskets
as well as the O Rings as they have all dried out by now.

Honestly, its easier and safer to simply replace the filter.

Frank

thanx anyway guys,it been chucked in the box trailer, for the dump next weekend, after reading the posts, and speaking to my guy at my lfs,i just kept the taps and the impeller, hoses, and the baskets, and chucked the rest,at the moment i didnt need it anyway,as i said above,i was just having a play around with it,and i thought maybe i could seal it up,but after it sprang a leak(i did catch it early, but there still was water all over the floor, witch i had to soak up),i thought what if it does it again, then keith said it too,so yeah,in the box trailer it went.,i will be sad to finally see it go,it was a dam good filter, and i look at it like this, all the use i got from it,its paid for itself 10 times over...
