Well for those of you who saw my thread on the good deal for the Eheim, condsider it no more. My buddy went to test it out one last time before he sold it to me and he can't get it to prime to save his life. We both tinkered with it and cleaned it for quite some time and to no avail. So it looks like that's gonna be a no go. My question to you is what filter should I now buy new? It's for a 90 gallon tank with a 14 inch Midas cichlid and 2 6 inch pictus cats. Right now I have a Fluval 304 and an Emperor 280. I want to keep the small emperor and replace the Fluval 304 with an Eheim, just not sure which one. The one I was going to get from my friend was a Eheim pro 2 2126. I don't want to buy a NEW 2126 but I would consider the 2026, the only difference is the 2026 doesn't have the internal heater. I just don't want to pay 100 extra bucks for the internal heater. I was also looking at the Eheim wet dry 2227. Which of these 2 filters do you believe to be the best filter for my application?

p.s. I'm selling my 304, check the classifides section at fishprofiles for more info.

In the earler thread did you say it was a new Eheim? If so contact Eheim and explain the problem to them before you make any decisions.

No, it was a used Eheim. It's not under warranty anymore. He was going to sell it to me used because he's getting out of the hobby.

When you say he couldn't get it to prime, do you mean the automatic priming mechanism is not working? If that's the only problem, just prime it manually (fill the cannister with water before re-fitting the top). It's still an excellent filter, and still the one I would recommend.

If it's more than the automatic primer, maybe you could give us more detail about the problem and we might be able to help solve it. The Eheim is a quality product and I expect it to last a lifetime, not just a few months or years.

Go to http://www.eheim.com and check their faq as well as the parts list for the used unit. By the way, my the prime pump head on my 2126 is not foolproof. I always fill the cannister with water and then ensure that the intak of output heads are fully submersed before I "pump it up". Takes more than a single push to overcome the static head of air in the line.

I guess I should have been more specific at first, sorry about that. I was also a bit vague when I said that it wouldn't prime. Basically what happens is it won't suck in any water. We've tried filling it to just about every single depth and even tried running it with no water in the canister with no success. All it does is make a loud humming sound. We've cleaned everything 10 times over and it doesn't help. I'm just going to buy a new one, I think my buddy has a lemon and I don't want to deal with undependable merchandise. So, what do you guys suggest on a new one? The Wey Dry or the Pro 2?
