Joe Potato Fish Addict Kind of a Big Deal Posts: 869 Votes: 309 Registered: 09-Jan-2001 | It really depends on how your floor is braced but figure that a 75 gallon is going to weigh at least 600 lbs, and probably a bit more. Does the crawl space extend under the whole house or is there a place where the floor is resting right on the foundation? Joe Potato |

If your are not sure ask a good builder to check it out for you. If it requires extra support it might only be a matter of a few concrete stumps under a new beam. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. (well were people go down and check the electical and plumbing) and was worried the floor wouldnt hold. But I have a 45 and a 20 next to each other full of water and everything seems fine. And the building was built in 66 so hopefully youll have the same luck. good luck tigermom |

FRANK Moderator Posts: 5108 Kudos: 5263 Votes: 1690 Registered: 28-Dec-2002 | Hi, When locating a large tank, you have to know where the floor joists are and which way they run. Additionally, you should never use a tank stand for them that puts the entire weight on four points. Stands for tanks that large and larger must distribute the tank's weight across the entire "footprint" of the stand. Large tanks, as a rule, should be located at right angles to the floor joists, and against a load bearing (not floating) wall. That way, when you place the tank, it is against the load bearing wall and lies across several joists so they all support the tank and not just one or two. sham Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3369 Kudos: 2782 Votes: 98 Registered: 21-Apr-2004 | I've never seen a stand for a larger tank on legs. They generally sit on the floor with maybe a 2x4 fr Generally without further info I've found 75g to be a good cut off for most houses. Anything much more than that and I'd worry about it. It does depend though. The house I just moved into is built sturdier than most bomb shelters. If I so desired I could probably stick a 200g tank in the middle of the largest room without any worries. Gotta love the granite block foundation and 8x8s running under hardwood floors. |
