How To Get Yellow Film Off | |
Natalie Ultimate Fish Guru Apolay Wayyioy Posts: 4499 Kudos: 3730 Votes: 348 Registered: 01-Feb-2003 | The reflector I used when I built my lights came with this film on it. I was going to take it off, but the instructions said to leave it on because it would "protect the shine" on the reflector. It did that for a while, but now two years later the film is discolored and ugly. It turned a gross yellow color, and I cannot get it off of the reflector. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can use to remove or dissolve this plastic film without hurting the me I have tried many things... Water, rubbing alcohol, Windex, scraping it, peeling it, etc, etc... And I have not had very much success at all. Do it well away from the tank and all that jazz. If there's a way to pour a bit of nail polish remover on and let it set that stuff can disolve press on nails so it should be able to make some headway into the film. Along the same lines paint stripper would likely work, again be cautious and rinse well before it goes near the tank again, who knows what might condense then drip into the tank. ^_^[hr width='40%'] The life, the love, You die to heal. Either try to contact the manufacturer or take it to any LFS that sells that make of light. Other than that it looks like buying a new light. I also thing the protective film would now be baked on. One that was supposed to come off an one that wasn't. I bought it online, but I can't remember the website. I think Tim might know... I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

They are used to scrape glass and let me tell you, they are EFFECTIVE to clean water marks, decals, paint and such from glass. You can find even an scrapper tool to hold those razors. The razors are like .2 every piece! |

I actually tried to take the film off when I first got the refector (before I read that it wasn't supposed to come off), but I just couldn't get it off at all. Now that it's sort of "baked" on, it's actually easier to get it off it seems. So far I have managed to get about one fifth of it off with my fingernails, but the paint thinner sounds like a good idea. I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

Add some to a cloth and keep on rubbing!!! We used this for sticker stuck to cars for a car dealership Angel Eel Last edited by angeleel at 26-Aug-2005 14:26 |
