Here are a couple of links that may help

http://www.duboisi.com/diy/BNdiygrotto/bndiygrotto.htm

http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/diy_background_ii.php

Good luck.

I did something like this, I took 6inch PVC pipes, cut out the bottom inch with a jig saw, then used fish safe silicone that i spread across the top of the PVC and put aquarium rock on top of it.

click the my pride link below to see a kinda ok pic of them. The fish love them.

You can cut a coconut in half & tie Anubias & Moss or use pots & cover them with rocks.

In the second link the OldTimer gave the author says that he uses glue gun with no ill effects to the fish. Has any one had any expire using the hot glue gun technique?

Hi,
Yes, that is correct the links were "fixed" after you
posted. Note in the corner of his posts, it says

That guys ultimate rock experiments sounds interesting.

I wonder what 'Portland Cement Type One' is (that is if it is differant from normal cement) and what it would be known as in Australia.

Hi,
Here is an article in which the various types of Portland
Cement are described:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portland_cement

Check with your local supplier online and see what they
call it.

I make my own all the time. What I do is take the rocks I am going to use and if the cave is to be free standing I will use Silicone Sealant to adhere them together. I have one in my ten gallon that is "built" into the terrace at the back it is simply made from two flat rocks on the side, that keep the gravel out, and a second flat rock laid across the top. This situation also makes cleaning the cave easy. Just remove the top rock and you have access. I'll post a pic of it later to day or tomorrow.

I also have a plan for a thirty gallon I am getting around July. At the bottom I am going to place a large number of caves so that you have the substrate then a layer of caves then the main tank.

If any are interested I will share the way I am going to do this as well.

I know I'd be interested in seeing that. A log with lots of pictures would be very cool.
