Since it's filter related, figured I'd put it in tech

Anyway, went to clean out my magnum 350 canister filter and saw some wriggling action going on. It was fry, but the angels weren't breeding successfully yet( still learning that parenting thing), so what the heck was it?

Put the two fry in the quarantine tank and got out a flashlight, and there was no mistaking the fact that I had two baby albino corydora, lol. I had not seen the eggs, so that was a little surprising. They could have been in the filter for a month. At any rate, they looked fattened and very strong.

What, if anything, have you found in your filters or other equipment that you didn't expect to find?

Hi Jake,

Just a comment, if you have tanks that are that
successful in breeding, I would suggest that you
use some sort of a sponge "pre-filer" to cover
your intake.

As to what I find in my filters - just the typical
junk

This was a long time ago, but I had some kind of stringy, grey, worm-like thing in my HoB filter...mainly in the intake tube.
I never really figured out what it was or where it came from, but it was very gross! To get rid of it, the only thing that worked was to break down the tank and components and clean/boil everything.

Snails. Baby snails. I couldn't figure out where they were all coming from, because my betta girls would eat any they could find, but they just kept coming! Haven't seen anymore since I got rid of the ones in the filter... either the girls are munching them before I see them or they're gone.

Funny you brought it up. Today I bought a new filter to replace a flailing old one. When I took the old one apart for cleaning and storage I also found two fry in it. In my case it were two 1 week old black molly fry, when she spawned the angels pretty much ate all of them except one that I managed to catch and separate in time. They obviously missed these two.

Thanks, Frank, but I know that trick. I'm not trying to breed the fish per say, it's just a natural side-effect. I placed a Filter-Max III prefilter on it already, after finding the corydora fry, not because I want to breed my fish, but because I don't want to sentence the fry to immediate death by impeller. I appreciate the advice though.

I regually get the very small BNs in my canister. Now when I empty the canister it goes through a large cooking sieve. As I fed tomato I have found a tomato seed germinating after one week.
