WOuld it be safe to put a 10g on a stand that has slightly curved sides? The only part thats curved (downward) are the 2 sides (left & right) of the stand. So the side ends of the tank actually do not sit on the stand (1/2 inch each per side).

Hi,
Actually, I think you already know the answer.
It's NO. Absolutely not. Just because the tank
is "only" 10 gallons, it still weighs around 100
pounds. The glass might not be as thick as say a
100 gallon tank, but it is just as e to crack
or leak as a larger tank with the same proportionally
warped stand.

Sorry, but I'd not put any tank on a stand that was
warped, even a little. Over the months and years
with that kind of weight on it, and the normal water
getting into the wood from normal work around the tank,
the warp will get worse, and the stresses grow to the
point where you would have cracks and leaks develop.

Frank

Ditto what Frank said.....additionally any shift of the stand will place additional pressure on the seals of the tank, which is a tanks weakest point.
The weight is a big issue...and with water and life on the line I don't think you really want to risk it.

Its not "warped", its actually a sturdy video cabinet (which just happens to be 20 inch but with 1/2 inch on each side curved) thats has "curved" sides like some desk/drawers. But does that matter??

Okay *tries to follow*.....so the sides are curved...this is by design ....something like (-) ....if the surface that the tank would be resting on is compleatly flat, and there is no movement of the stand when 100+lbs of weight is applied to it...then it may be okay....however I'd consider it carefully before actually carrying it out.

Its a very heavy, sturdy stand with a solid base. I'll get some pics up for Babel.

I have looked at the photos please correct me if I am wrong.

It appears that the ends of the tank are not on the top of the stand but have a small over hang.

If that is correct even if the stand would hold 10 times the weight of your tank it is totally unsuitable.

To correct the situation, place another top on top of the stand so that the base of the tank is suppored all around and have some overhang of the new top.

Yeah, I was thinking of placing a temporary piece of wood on top of the stand to give the edge support.
