I've noticed that the outlet tube on my powerhead, is slowly going white, it does have CO2 going through it but I'm unsure as to what's causing this.

First off, should I be worried? Is it leaching something into the tank? Or is it normal?

Just curious guys and gals.

Hi,
The tubing I have off of my power head has also turned
white, and I do not have CO2 going through it. A second
piece that I have spliced (to reach the CO2 reactor) is
still clear after 7 years. I think it is just the type
of plastic and it aging process.

I agree with Frank here. It is an aging process it is also starting to loose its flexability.

It is very common with some forms of plastics.

So you think it'll be fine for a while yet?

I'm not that worried if it lasts for another 6 months, becuase by that time, I should have a better plumbing system than I do now.

Cheers guys.

It "should" ?? last a lot longer than that as long as you dont go pulling it around or try to rejoin it as it could be hard and non flexable.

I know what you mean there Keith.

My background is in model aircraft, the fuel we use has a tendency to make vynil tube incredibly hard and brittle in a short time. Considering it cheap as chips I don't mind, but this is in an area I don't want to see for at least a year!

*chimes in* I've had that with mine as well...
Curare, might it also be build up from your water just a thought....but yes any tubing I place in the tank has a tendency to turn white, as well as get rather slimey .

mmm, I've noticed that before. It's like some form of white algae, or just plain old sludge.

I noticed it on all the rubber parts of my heater when i first ran it. Odd, don't you think?
