It could just be getting old... Most mechanical things tend to slow down over time.

How tight did you put the new filter matterial in? Did you double up, or over pack something? This will definitely have an impact on the power of the filter. Also, as mentioned already, be sure to clean the impeller and inlet and outlet tubes and such.

i cleaned it as i normally do, i always clean the propeller and the rest of the head.
i didnt replace any of the filter media (i did clean it though) apart from the cotton wool, which i dont think could be impairing the flow this much.
Its still working, but its not wokring as well as it should be.
If it is due to old age, then i must say it is pretty poor quality since ive only had it for a couple of years.
this happened to anyone else?

I dont think its old age ive been using my filters for years and they still work like new with no noise. mine are fluvals but since your brand is as good as mine you should have years of service out of it. try running it with no filter media to see if the prolem is in the media or the filter.

I have had the 2126 Pro II Thermofilter for several years. The intake has a foam pre-filter to minimize the chunks going into the filter. Each time that I clean the unit, I thoroughly rinse the coarse filter pad and replace the fine filter pad. Using a five gallon pail that is half-filled with aquarium water, the trays containing the efimech and efisubstrat are rinsed until they no longer surrender any waste or dirt. The interior cannister is scrubbed with a pad, the impeller is cleaned with a toothbrush and the impeller cavity is scrubbed with a tube brush. I have not had a problem with this regimen.

I would look to scrubbing the impeller cavity and rinsing the bio media in waste aquarium water.

I experienced a similar problem with flow slowing down after a week or two and it turned out to be the top foam pad was rising and blocking the outlet, all i had to do was clean it and put it back in and the problem went away.

Gibson SG you know you want one!!

Sounds like you learnt a good lesson in cleaning.

Another question how often do you do a full pull down and cleaning?

I have the Eheim Pro11 2026 and do a full maintainance every two months.

I have been advised not to replace the bases just top up as required. I have replaced the fine top sponge after six months. The course sponge is still in perfect orded.

Hey keithgh
lol you could say i learnt my lesson...
ive just been a bit out of it with year 12 and all... still getting bak into the swing of it i guess, anyway with regards to the filter material...
i still use all my original media, all i change is the fine filter wool stuff at the top, works like a charm, got no probs with this... had it for jus over 3 years now...
oh.. not too sure whta you mean by bases?
i use to do a complete pull down of the filter every few weeks... got a bit slack this year with year 12 stuff taking up most of my time...
