I just got a second emperor 400 for my tank, but for some reason this one seems to be running alot louder. Anyone have any ideas of why this might be?

That filter can be adjusted for output...

If used check the impeller for obstruction in the impeller well.

Hi,
While you don't describe the noise, generally speaking
the noise is comming from the pump area.
You could have the impeller not seated in the assembly.
The impeller could be worn and wobbling.
There could be a grain of sand/gravel, or a snail shell
in the chamber.
There could be air trapped in the impeller assembly and
the impeller either cavitating, or wobbling due to the
air.

Once you check out the pump assembly, and the noise
continues, and the unit is new, you might want to replace
it while it's still under warranty.

I have setup 4 different tanks with Penguin filter(basicly the same). From what I remember, when the filter is new it is always louder. If the impeller is seated properly, just wait a few weeks. Once the new filter becomes coated with bacteria it will quiet down.

Ok. Yea i don't remember if my older one was this loud before. Overall its an impressive filter so i figured 2 working together would be great filtration. Also my motor seems to be causing more vibrations on the second one.

If it a new filter if so just take it back and ask for a replacement.

If it is an older (second hand) do a full pull down and cleaning of what you can do. Check all the parts for wear and tear and replace as required.

I had to take my old filter back four times before they fully replaced it. If they will not replace just keep taking it back, also this works better if there are other people in the shop as well, especialy if you are complaining about their service. It worked extrtemly well for me in the end.
