I was thinking about getting a python for Christmas to help with water changes to the 55 gallon tank I recently got. This may be a stupid question, but how do you add the dechlorinator to the water when refilling the tank with the python? I normally use 1 gallon jugs and just add the dechlorinator to the jug before emptying it into the tank. I just don't want to hurt any of my little fishies with nasty chlorinated water Also, can you use the python as a gravel vac as well or does it not work for that? Any help would be appreciated. TIA
Jen

go for the python! i couldnt imagine doing water changes without it, especially on a larger size tank.

to answer you second question first, yes it works very well as a gravel vac. depending on your water pressure, it'll create a little bit of suction or a lot, i've had no problems cleaning my gravel - in fact, sometimes it's working so well i accidentally get some stem plants caught up in the suction.

as for the first question, when i change water i usually just add in the dechlor. before refilling the tank. for example, for my 46 gallon tank, i usually wind up taking out around 10-15 gallons per change, sometimes but rarely 20 gallons. after taking the water out and doing whatever i need to do to the tank, i just add the reccommended dose of dechlor. for that amount of water, and refill the tank with the python. it'll mix in with the water as it's being filled up. good luck!

Hi,
I've been using the same practice as "Nowhereman" for
40 years now, with no problems at all. Just match the
water temperatures, and let the returning new water
mix the dechlorinator for you.

I also add dechlorinator the same way as Frank and nowhereman. Makes gravel vacuuming and water changes MUCH easier. When I first got started I used a regular siphon and a bucket, made maintenance a real hassle.

At home, my tanks are on the second floor and my laundry tub is in the basement. I have the hose snaked thru a chase from upstairs down to the tub and it works great, no mess at all. The only drawback is running up and down two flights of stairs to turn the water on and off It gets a real good siphon going though

Mmm, no spills? Wait until you're distracted when you're filling the tank! Water from the second floor to the basement... Double check your insurance coverage, mine covers fools with aquariums. I know, I tested it!
