large aquarium stands | |
Sonic2041 Enthusiast Posts: 152 Kudos: 142 Votes: 19 Registered: 19-Dec-2004 | i am building a stand for a 120 gallon tank. i am thinking of using two 4x4 posts in the back corners and two 4x4 posts that are cut down to 2.25 x 3.5 so it is covered by the face fr does anyone know if this will hold. tank stands in stores for a 75 gallon tank are made of particle boad and have no framing so it seems like this would be a lot stroger. |

Your only concern should be that everythign is stright. You dont want the stand to lean or start to twist in any way. I have a 125gal built in to a wall with two 2x4 at each corner and two 2x4 running the length and width of the tank. No center support to the floor because I have another 125gal under it. Your main support of the tank is the corners. Dan |

My old 6ft tank was on a partical board fr It is how it is made not what it is made of. Also how the weight is spread over the total area. It is a personal choice but in this case a thicker piece is the better choice. I bough mine at a large hardware store.
