	weight Calculation
Troy_Mclure Fish Addict Posts: 725 Kudos: 306 Registered: 20-Jan-2003	Hi there, I am buying a house soon with my brother and will also get a large aquarium to go with it. Unfortunately I am quartered off to upstairs. As far as I know the floor is wood under the tiles and I would like to know if anyone has some sort of formula to fish tank weight once it is full of water.

sillyquiet Fingerling Posts: 36 Kudos: 279 Votes: 18 Registered: 16-May-2004	Well,water weighs about a kilo a liter, plus the weight of the decorations and substrate, and the weight of the tank itself.. you can you usually figure on roughtly 4.5 kilos per gallon, or about 1 to 1.5 kilos per liter. FRANK Moderator Posts: 5108 Kudos: 5263 Votes: 1690 Registered: 28-Dec-2002	Hi, Before live rock, reef tanks came into popularity, the "Rule of Thumb" for tank weight was to figure an average of 10 pounds/gallon. That allows the 8 pounds/gallon for the water and figures about 2 pounds for the gravel. Even with today's planted tanks, it's still a good average. Babelfish Administrator Small Fry with Ketchup Posts: 6833 Kudos: 8324 Votes: 1570 Registered: 17-Apr-2003	Just finished going thru a bit of calculations when I was putting the "pond" in my living room....don't know if you already have the tank picked out or not, but it would likely be worth the effort to get one with a larger footprint. Don't forget that a good stand will also distribute the weight. ^_^
