Cichlid Kid Fish Addict Posts: 553 Kudos: 285 Votes: 34 Registered: 22-May-2004 | hi i got up this a.m. and got ready and went to work.all 9 of my fathead were alive and actively swimming.the only thing i can think of that caused the deaths may be the increase in temp from about 72 to 76F this was beacuse of the aquarium light being on.it never hurt them b4.my temp currently now is about 75F ammonia ooks to be at about .25ppm, but could be between .24 and .50 ppm.tank just started becaus ethey are feeders for my oscar.they are the cycling fish.i think they could also possibly have been over fed becuase if it was the ammonia would the other fish be affect.also the fish are down towards the bottom |

The others are most likely being affected, just that they have been in the tank and have tolerated the ammonia from the beginning. In my opinion it is definately the ammonia that caused their death. What are the other parameters in the tank? Nitrate and Nitrite? Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes. |

As the tank is new it certainly would not have been cycled also are these fish suitable for cycling a tank? Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. These problems increase the stress in the fish and can result in the weakening of their immune systems. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/FA005 In this particular case, you might have brought in a few fish that were infected with a disease. I brought up the specific fish you have elected to use as feeders. In essence, they are an excellent fish for that purpose however, they can come with a bacterial infection that can even be passed to humans. http://www.fishba Note the treatment for this disease.
