Dust Storm 2009 | |
Babelfish Administrator Small Fry with Ketchup Posts: 6833 Kudos: 8324 Votes: 1570 Registered: 17-Apr-2003 | My first dust storm Might not be that impressive to the rest of you aussies that have lived with this your whole lives, but usually when viz is low like this I'm used to it being super cold, slippery and rather wet ( I'm talking about snow !) These photos were taken at 1pm on a 'fine' 80F spring day. No colored filters, in camera effects, or post processing was used other then to resize the photo to 600X400 and save as a low res jpg. ^_^ |

I would guess that "they" advise folks with lung problems to stay indoors, and maybe folks who must go outdoors to wear face masks? A few minutes ago on the news the visibility was down to 600mt. More Dust Storms Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. Kind of like how when it snows there are no warnings to put a jacket on, and crazy australians run around in the snow wearing shorts. Yes I do have the photos of adam doing such things for those that don't believe me . I'm feeling it in my lungs now, was only out for a few hours. Had a physio appointment right as the storm was moving in, got the good pics before I had to run home for a bit, second trip out was not nearly as good. Keith, not the best time to take the car out when it's JUST had a new air filter put in We'll have to hose down our roof before it rains (not that it is supposed to any time soon) so that it doesn't end up in our water tanks. I tried to protect my lungs (actually I was looking for banks ). The tape is due to the bursitis in my shoulders I'm still dealing with (15 months later) |

The water restrictions are lifted til Sunday, and Coles petrol stations were offering $5 car washes the past 2 days to try and get people through. Not much point, more winds expected for the weekend. I'll be sensible this time and close the bedroom window. I had a mouthful of mud last time! After the worst had cleared @ 9am |

We had dust come in all over the laundry room that I only just now spotted cause of the air vent in the top of the window I wouldn't have bothered to clean up but we ad an anti house warming bbq and FIL came over for the first time. ^_^ |

I never found it to snow when it was super cold, usually it'd be light jacket weather at most when it was snowing. Super cold weather it's just too cold for there to be enough moisture in the air for snow. Though you occasionally get the air full of floating ice crystals. |

Never seen anything like it. Pretty amazing, but not much fun. So much to clean up. some news photos of how Sydney looked blanketed in the red dust http://www.smh.com.au/photogallery/national/dust-turns-sydney-sky-red/20090923-g0tw.html?selectedImage=44 Cheers TW |
