Calilasseia *Ultimate Fish Guru* Panda Funster Posts: 5496 Kudos: 2828 Votes: 731 Registered: 10-Feb-2003 | The only problem with snorkelling being that you have to head to the surface for air periodically, and coral reefs contain masses of fish and invertebrates that you want to keep looking at for as long as possible ... which means that if ever I was in a position to go exploring a coral reef, I'd want full scuba gear with rebreather tanks so I could stay as long as possible without having to surface. Actually, if that was me, I'd want the full Jacques Cousteau setup - big ship, onboard submersibles, decompression chamber and half a dozen other fellow fish nuts pointing underwater cameras at everything that moves. Don't want much do I? Apart from anything else, some interesting things live at depths that are inaccessible to snorkel diving - Paracentropyge boylei being just one creature I can think of off the top of my head. And that's before I start thinking about moving off the continental shelf and heading for abyssal trenches. What are my chances of getting Bill Gates to hand me $100 million in a brown paper bag for the exercise? |
