And, sadly, also experienced the less than happy experience of a kidney stone bad enough to require a hospital stay. Since I haven't been here for a while, I thought I'd pop in. |

I started working again and haven't had much time to even go on-line. I still lurk every now and then to see whats happening thats about it though. Hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday. |

CLK, I feel very much the same way. I can't really think of ways to help us retain our membership. It is as though much of the sense of community has left the site. I have stayed in the chat on a background window hoping someone will pop in but no one ever does. It is the only thing I could think of doing. |

Plus i think fishkeeping in general, has become a lot less attractive to new folks than TV, running around, XBOX etc. It takes a strong and motivated leader, to motivate existing members into working as a team to re-establish anything. FRANK Moderator Posts: 5108 Kudos: 5263 Votes: 1690 Registered: 28-Dec-2002 | Hi "It's Just Me" Generally speaking, "Brown Algae" is actually an "outbreak" or "bloom" of diatoms. It generally happens in newly set up aquariums. It comes from an over abundance of Silica and Silica comes from the dust or powder from the new quartz ba water changes will dilute the of silica in the water and the diatoms will die off. In mature tanks, the cause is still an abundance of silica but in this case usually due to either "dead areas" (lack of currents) and generally poor maintenance especially in regard to cleaning the gravel. Hope that helps... Frank -->>> The Confidence of Amateurs, is the Envy of Professionals <<<-- |

I have been out of the hobby for a few years following my move for work but am now considering dabbling into it again with a tank. Sorry to see how slow things have gotten, but it seems that way for most fish sites out there now? |

poisonwaffle Mega Fish Posts: 1397 Kudos: 591 Registered: 11-Feb-2003 | Sure is, Pat I've got a few of you guys on facebook, but haven't been back here in ages. Just thought I'd drop by to say 'hi' and keep in touch. Between school (network engineering), working for my city's police dept (systems analyst), and life in general, things have been hectic. I've always been a computer guy, but working in IT has proved less-than-ideal. I'll soon be going back to school for mechanical engineering, and (if everything goes as planned) working for USGS/EROS over the next few years. I've still got one tank up and running (29 gal with a few juvie Jack Dempseys), but the rest of my tanks are taken down and in storage. Once life settles down, I'll get back into the hobby more seriously. -Scott |

I am heavily into plecos now and dabble in a couple of marine tanks as well. 28 tanks are keeping me busy and the powerbills astronomical. |

Instead of five tanks, I'm down to one 75 gallon with a few pictus cats and a very territorial Jack Dempsey. |

It's been a long time since I last logged in, for almost two years the Hobby has been on the back burner for me but recently I've picked it back up again. It's a shame to see this place so deserted but I guess most people have moved on to places like Facebook. Anyways, I'll pop in from time to time to see whether something else is happening, I might even post of photo of my freshly setup tank. To all of you still logging in, see you around |

I've started my own company on the side to assist with my wife's translation agency, and having a regular 9-5 job on top of that left me with little spare time. The side job turned out pretty good though and I'll be making it a full time thing later this year. In the meanwhile we'll be picking up our adoptive son from China next month so family life is good too How have you been? |

RED PHANTOM Fingerling Posts: 18 Kudos: 21 Votes: 1 Registered: 18-Jul-2012 | Warm greetings to everyone! I'm also guilty of getting involved in daily life and keeping up with the changes. Lost contact for quite a while since I switched jobs and lifestyle; went from office work and city dwelling to country living and field working. Also internet availability took its toll... Sorry to bring back this thread but it seemed to be a good place to say hello to the FP family. It's great to be back and see a lot of familiar faces on this great site. Still have my planted 50 gallon tank with most of the same inhabitants as four or five years back when I started... My lonely hoplos, banjos, clown loaches, rumminoses, marble hatchets and of course, red phantoms. Got the bug back when my brother in law asked me to help him set up a new 20 gallon and decided it was time to spruce my tank back up again. Poked my head in the site to look at profiles and just got the FP fever again and just had to stop in and say hello. Had to change my login name since the previous login information and password I sincerely can not remember and lost the information to the email address I had registered. So instead of being REDPHANTOM I am now RED PHANTOM. Anyway...great to be back around the place and see the great people in FP are still around. See around the boards and greetings to everyone!
