Hello everyone ...

I've been busy. And, sadly, also experienced the less than happy experience of a kidney stone bad enough to require a hospital stay. Since I haven't been here for a while, I thought I'd pop in.

Cali,
So sorry to hear about your hospital visit. I hope everything is well now.

CLK, I feel very much the same way. I can't really think of ways to help us retain our membership. It is as though much of the sense of community has left the site. I have stayed in the chat on a background window hoping someone will pop in but no one ever does. It is the only thing I could think of doing.

Right now I've had another worry on my mind ... my brother ... his last residential address was in Redbank Plains, QLD, and I'm waiting for news that he's made it through the floods ...

Folks, Its not just this forum. Forums in general have been taken over by the things mentioned above, and also twitter and facebook. Plus i think fishkeeping in general, has become a lot less attractive to new folks than TV, running around, XBOX etc. It takes a strong and motivated leader, to motivate existing members into working as a team to re-establish anything. If the leaders fail, so will the objective.

was under a different name 5-6 yrs back, tho..
Im lurking here and there checking out pixs and drooling as always..
Im up to 6 tanks now bigest being 80 gal and smallest 10 gal.
I dont think there will ever be a time of never having a tank..
want to thank you all for being here for me when I needed you, dont ever leave for good!..
Job and home renovations have kept me away and that I hadnt had to many problems up till around Xmas. I lost my whole tank to something.
all up and running fine with fish again..
now I just have to figure out this brown algae thing

Hi "It's Just Me"
Generally speaking, "Brown Algae" is actually an "outbreak"
or "bloom" of diatoms. It generally happens in newly set
up aquariums. It comes from an over abundance of Silica
and Silica comes from the dust or powder from the new
quartz based gravel. Ottos LOVE the stuff and/or, simple
water changes will dilute the of silica in the water and
the diatoms will die off. In mature tanks, the cause is
still an abundance of silica but in this case usually due
to either "dead areas" (lack of currents) and generally
poor maintenance especially in regard to cleaning the
gravel.

Hope that helps...
Frank

Hi Everyone!

I certainly recognize a few familiar names! Hello to everyone that might remember me! Hello especially to Babelfish and Adam!

I have been out of the hobby for a few years following my move for work but am now considering dabbling into it again with a tank.

Sorry to see how slow things have gotten, but it seems that way for most fish sites out there now?

I've been practicing guitar again, checking buy/sell sites for music gear and tips & playing cod4mw.

Tanks have fell behind some but the fish & plants are good. 4 zebra otos (want more of those !) still keeping the angelfish company. Still to complete the co2 setup.

I hate facebook but do have a profile lol.

That is so true, I talk to my fishprofiles friends on facebook far more often than on here

I'm down to one tank and 3 fish. 2 of my original Raphaels pictured for profiles are still alive. Also have a wonderful oscar that loves to be hand fed.

Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn.

Sure is, Pat

I've got a few of you guys on facebook, but haven't been back here in ages. Just thought I'd drop by to say 'hi' and keep in touch.

Between school (network engineering), working for my city's police dept (systems analyst), and life in general, things have been hectic. I've always been a computer guy, but working in IT has proved less-than-ideal. I'll soon be going back to school for mechanical engineering, and (if everything goes as planned) working for USGS/EROS over the next few years.

I've still got one tank up and running (29 gal with a few juvie Jack Dempseys), but the rest of my tanks are taken down and in storage. Once life settles down, I'll get back into the hobby more seriously.

Wow, strange that I log in for the first time in a few years and see this post haha, last time i was online 'Little fish' had a 125 gal planted tank log that was going mental.

Just starting to get back into the hobby after spending a while dealing with reptiles and University. I was looking for some inspiration but there isn't much happening here!!

Ok guilty as charged, I only slip in to use the calculator and look up a fish profile sometimes.

I am heavily into plecos now and dabble in a couple of marine tanks as well.

28 tanks are keeping me busy and the powerbills astronomical.

I haven't checked these boards in years....I stopped because kids, school, and posters with bad attitudes got in the way. Instead of five tanks, I'm down to one 75 gallon with a few pictus cats and a very territorial Jack Dempsey.

Well it would appear that this is the place to poke my head in and say hi!

Its such a shame to see this place as quiet as it is... So many fond memories of hanging out in the chat room talking fishies!

Its nice to see that there are still a few familiar faces around though

*hugs everyone*

I figured I could drop in here and send you all my greetings. It's been a long time since I last logged in, for almost two years the Hobby has been on the back burner for me but recently I've picked it back up again. It's a shame to see this place so deserted but I guess most people have moved on to places like Facebook. Anyways, I'll pop in from time to time to see whether something else is happening, I might even post of photo of my freshly setup tank. To all of you still logging in, see you around

Hi Frank,

All is indeed well, just extremely busy. I've started my own company on the side to assist with my wife's translation agency, and having a regular 9-5 job on top of that left me with little spare time. The side job turned out pretty good though and I'll be making it a full time thing later this year. In the meanwhile we'll be picking up our adoptive son from China next month so family life is good too How have you been?

Warm greetings to everyone!

I'm also guilty of getting involved in daily life and keeping up with the changes.

Lost contact for quite a while since I switched jobs and lifestyle; went from office work and city dwelling to country living and field working.

Also internet availability took its toll...

Sorry to bring back this thread but it seemed to be a good place to say hello to the FP family.

It's great to be back and see a lot of familiar faces on this great site.

Still have my planted 50 gallon tank with most of the same inhabitants as four or five years back when I started... My lonely hoplos, banjos, clown loaches, rumminoses, marble hatchets and of course, red phantoms.

Got the bug back when my brother in law asked me to help him set up a new 20 gallon and decided it was time to spruce my tank back up again.

Poked my head in the site to look at profiles and just got the FP fever again and just had to stop in and say hello.

Had to change my login name since the previous login information and password I sincerely can not remember and lost the information to the email address I had registered. So instead of being REDPHANTOM I am now RED PHANTOM.

Anyway...great to be back around the place and see the great people in FP are still around.

See around the boards and greetings to everyone!

Thanks Babel,

It's real nice to be back...

Not to sure on who is enjoying the BIL tank more, either him or me, but the fishkeeping bug is highly contagious since my girlfriend also got a new setup.

All the best!

It's been a few years since I've hung here properly, said to see the lack of activity. Since my days here as a teenager I have made alot of changes in my life.. I own my own exotic housing company, as well as working as an electrician as well as 8 fish tanks, 100+ snakes and 30+ parrots of various species, I'm very busy. I will check back here as much as possible though.
