Hey!
I have now managed to get my wife to agree to get a bigger tank..(maybe it helped to get my children crying for it)
I will get the 600L/159USG tank.
I was thinking if i could use some gravel/plants and stones from the other tank i have and also take some water from that tank to putt in the new tank, will the recycling go faster?
Or should i buy new gravel, roots, stones and plants and not use the water from the older tank?
Can i use the filters from the old tank to the new tank and the new filters from the new tank to go to the old tank..
Just wanted to know if i can speed up the cycling and how much time will it take to cycle the 600L/159G tank...1-2 months?
I havent got the tank yet but i think it's only matter of some days

You can use Gravel, Water, Plants & some filter material from the old tank to the new one & all this will speed the cycling of the new tank. Make sure that you don't start a mimi-cycle on your old tank, by removing too much stuff. If i where you, i would take my time to cycle the new tank & take it step by step.

Congrats on the new tank!!!

I know exactly how you feel, I just upgraded my 46 bowfront to 140 gallon oceanic showcase tank. I was able to cycle my tank in four days and didn't lose any fish!!! On the first day I set up the tank and added cycle, I had an aquaclear 110 running on it. The next day I put the live plants from my 46 in, along with some gravel from that tank as well. I also added eight female bettas. The next day I did approximately a 30% water change and replaced it with water from the established tank. I then moved over my aquaclear 70 from the bowfront and added the rest of my stock. 2 ghost knives, 8 angels, 4 guppies, 2 plecos, 10 black neons, 5 corries, 2 swordtails. It is important to remember to add a couple of fish when you are moving established bacteria colonies over! This probably seems like a fast way to cycle, but I continuously asked questions from my areas aquatic association and had everything okay'ed by them before I did anything!
Enjoy your new tank!

Robby,

I aquascaped a new 125G, filled it, added a dozen adult discus and a number of other fish in one day with no cycle! Keys were:
o Fully seeded Eheim Pro II
o Fully seeded AquaClear 70
o EcoComplete Substrate
o Daily 30% water changes for a week...

Yes you can shift every thing across but what about the filter and the material in the filter. I assume (never assume any thing) that you intend to buy a new filter if so buy the best an Eheim 2028 Pro11 www.eheim.de has all the info. It will be expensive but well worth the money.

This could/will be the problem as the filter will not be fully cycled.

Personally I would start it completly fresh with a tank that size it will be spactactular if you are patient and think it through the word here is PLAN PLAN and be prepared for big $$$$ to set it up.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Yes i think i will start it completly fresh, step by step.
I have some plans for my new tank...i will make it a Asian river biotope.
The tank i will get has allready the filters build in..it has - Simply ONE plug for lamps, filtration and aeration
- 3 stage filtration, Mechanical, Chemical and Biological.
The tank has this dimm.. Capacity 470L/124 US Ga.
- Dim: 120.1x50x65.5cm(82.7x19.7x25.8inch)(L X D X H)
- Tank top integrated filtration for easy and convenient maintenance.I have to choose this one since the other one is to big..doesn't fit there i want it..but the 124g is also nice

Pinch a couple of your wifes stockings and put some gravel from your old tank in them. Place them in the new tank for a couple of weeks. This will help speed up the cycling process and you can still set the tank up with new gravel etc.

Congrats on the new tank!

Excellent use of the children, so much quicker than brainwashing

Good luck with the new tank

Since you do have an established tank that really is the way to go . Some people will squeeze the filter sponges onto their new filter, or even gravel vac the bottom mulm from the established tank into the new one.

However if your wife doesn't notice that they are her stockings I'd begin to worry.... about both of you .
