I'm finally getting around to putting backgrounds on my oldest and newest tanks. My only idea is black...any other suggestions?

Go to a paint store and get a number of paint "chips" in colors that you like. Tape them to the back of the aquarium for a week to see what you like. My favorite has been a light gray.

Great driftwood!

Hi,
Darker backgrounds are generally better. Mirrors or
foils are the worst as they allow fish to see their
reflections, and can spook skittish fish.

Theresa,

I recently changed my background (29G) from a “Rock Landscape” picture to the “Deep Ocean” one. I like this one much better. Black is too depressing for me. The ocean one actually gets a little lighter towards the top which gives it an impression of actual water depth (although the 18” in the 29G are not high enough to create a significant color difference between bottom and top).

Here is My Tank, in case you want to see a sample (deep ocean background is visible on the last post on page 1).

Hope this helps,

Ingo

PS: Yes, truly a nice driftwood collection. But hey, isn't that the same wood in both tanks?

Black or Dark Blue are my favourites, as you can see the fish & plant colours better.

I think black would look great on the 75, but not so great on the 29. Maybe a dark maroon reddish color would look nice (if you have no red fish, that is)?

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

Black is best. If you cannot buy a small tin of flat water based black. Get them to make a sample up. This works out a lot cheaper. Dont use a paint brush us a fine short pile paint roller. This will give you a far even coating. It might even take 4-5 coats to a good job. Also when it is planted along the back the greens stand out to their best.

If side light is a problem also paint the sides as well you will be supprised at the difference it makes.

Using water based paint it will scrape of very easy if you dont like it.

The 29gal ahs a nice airy look. White background might actually look good on that tank. Get a big piece of paper and try it.

For the big tank definately black or dark blue.

yeah maybe a natural rocky backround for the first one and on the second a solid, darker backround.

is that a blue acara? what else is in there?

LITTLE_FISH I love your tank and that background made a big difference. I still haven't decided for these tanks but I'm getting the deep ocean blue for two of my smaller tanks.

Ok, that's not the most recent pic of my 75g and that piece of 'driftwood' (fake) is no longer in the tank

Ethan14 The GT was between 4-5". Unfortunately he got a bit too curious about the outside world and recently jumped. I wrote about it in [link=this thread]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Cichlid%20Central/63036.html?200508172333" style="COLOR: #99FF33[/link]. Otherwise the tank has giant danios, a blue acara, Cuban, severum, angel, sailfin plec, and clown loaches.

I'm definitely leaning towards something light for the 29g, I like the idea of either white/off white or a rocky background. The problem for me is that tank sat on a half wall between 2 rooms for almost a year and I'm still picturing it that way

Thanks for all the suggestions though
